Winner of over 175 Game of the Year Awards and recipient of over 250 perfect scores, RDR2 is the epic tale of outlaw Arthur Morgan and the infamous Van der Linde gang, on the run across America at the dawn of the modern age.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a third-person action adventure game blending GTA-like in an expansive open-world of a never-seen-before depth with a western setting.
Our team and my role:
Red Dead Redemption 2’s development team spread across multiple countries and timezone. Involving countless specialisms and several thousand employees working in parallel.
I worked as an Open World & Mission Designer part of Rockstar North’s team and focused on delivering state of the art content for story missions and open-world random events. My responsibilities encompassed designing and scripting the content, driving the assets development and integration as well as ensuring the overall content quality standards.
One of the missions I oversaw can be seen in the video below.
What I learnt:
This experience at Rockstar North not only offered me my first professional experience on large scale AAA development but also helped me develop an eye for outstanding quality and details.
Besides, it accustomed me to issues inherent to developing such a colossal cross-continental production. I learnt plentifully from the processes, methodologies and organisational structure set in place to ensure outstanding quality standards all across our wide and multicultural team.
Furthermore, it gave me the chance to work with world-class technicians when it came to scripting and tailoring game systems and logic. This pushed me out of my comfort zone and led me to tremendously expand my technical proficiency. A knowledge thanks to which I now feel confident not only driving teams from a game design perspective, but from a feasibility and technical efficiency one as well.
